As part of their tax preparation process, many tax preparers already have at their disposal a type of interview worksheet that they often use internally to record information on their clients to ensure complete and accurate income tax returns. The types of information usually recorded are the:

  • marital status of their client
  • sources of income of their client
  • number of children of their client
  • etc.

This interview process is done before the preparation of the return.

In order to help these tax preparers in this task, we have created a questionnaire which should streamline the aforementioned data collection process. This improvement has been made possible with the addition of a new feature in the Client letter window of the Client letter... option of the Preferences menu of DT Max. This feature is called "Generate a separate pro forma questionnaire". If you check the box next to this option, DT Max will generate a questionnaire that will be used to collect the relevant information from your client that pertains to the preparation of his/her return. You will be able to print this questionnaire and give it to your client to complete before the preparation of his/her return. You will find this questionnaire under the Tax return tab of DT Max in the last pages of the client letter.

Please note that this questionnaire will be based on the current tax year (i.e. 2013) information. For example, if your client's 2013 tax return contains employment income, it will be expected that your client has still earned that employment income in 2014. As such, the section of the questionnaire describing the slips that your client should have received before the return can properly be completed will indicate a T4.
